St. John the Baptist, Stanbridge Bellringing

St John the Baptist church has six bells dating back to 1637. The church underwent a major restoration in 1892-3. Reports mention that the tower was restored with a lead roof, the wooden partition was removed from the tower arch but the bells were “not touched”. However, some steps had been taken towards a future restoration of the bells.

In 1964-5 a new Vestry and ringing loft in the tower were created They were dedicated on 27 June 1965. The clock was placed in the tower in 1923 as a Peace memorial.
